South Lynches and Lake City Fire Departments recently teamed up to visit Scranton Elementary as part of Fire Safety Week. Firemen spoke about proper fire prevention steps, and what to do if there is a fire. In addition, students were allowed to get up close to the fire trucks for an in-depth inspection of the truck and equipment. Students were educated about safety and entertained by the fire department clowns who performed tricks and jokes while delivering a serious message about fire safety.

They were taken through the LCFD's "smoke house," where they were instructed in the safe and proper ways to exit a building on fire and/or full of smoke.  Also as part of the program, students got the opportunity to meet Sparky the Fire Cat, and students received a pencil, a sticker badge and a fire hat for participating in the activity.
